Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" open casting calls in Los Angeles and Puerto Rico


Three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg is holding in-person open casting calls for the lead roles in his upcoming Twentieth Century Fox live-action musical feature film "West Side Story". They will be held in Los Angeles on Tuesday October 9, 2018 and in Puerto Rico on Thursday September 27, 2018. These and for males and females who have a strong dance background and are able to sing. "West Side Story" is a remake of the 1961 film about rival gangs in New York City. The original 1961 film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won 10, including Best Picture, becoming the record holder for the most wins for a movie musical.

Spielberg is directing "West Side Story" from an adapted screenplay written by two-time Academy Award nominee Tony Kushner based on the book by two-time Academy Award nominee Arthur Laurents. Spielberg is also producing along with Kevin McCollum and two-time Academy Award nominee Kristie Macosko Krieger. Shooting on "West Side Story" will commence in July, 2019.

Three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg is searching for male and female talent to play the roles of THE JETS and THE SHARKS. THE SHARKS are Latinx, and THE JETS are Caucasian. All talent must be between the ages of 15-25, and must have a strong dance background, and must be able to sing.

PLEASE PREPARE: Come warmed up and ready to dance in the proper attire/shoes. Men should wear comfortable movement clothes and bring jazz shoes or sneakers. Women should wear comfortable movement clothes and bring character heels, ballet or jazz flats, and a rehearsal skirt. All talent will be seen on a first come, first served basis to learn a dance combination.

IN ADDITION: Please prepare a short cut (16 bars) of a classic musical theatre song. Bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.
